Canyon Ridge Care Center is a community-led nonprofit working to secure the future of local care in Valentine, Nebraska, and the surrounding Sandhills region.
Our first priority is preserving the essential services already provided by Cherry Hills Estates. From that foundation, we envision expanding access to assisted living, long-term care, and skilled nursing, creating more opportunities for individuals and families to receive the care they need close to home.

Canyon Ridge Care Center is a locally governed nonprofit organization working to preserve and expand care options in Valentine and the surrounding region.
Beginning with the purchase of Cherry Hills and the preservation of its existing assisted living services, Canyon Ridge's long-term vision is to create a continuum of care that includes assisted living, long-term care and skilled nursing care — helping people remain close to family, friends and the community they call home as their care needs change.
Canyon Ridge was created in response to a significant gap in local care options.
While assisted living is currently available in Valentine, people who need long-term or skilled nursing care may have to leave the community to receive it. Canyon Ridge is working to preserve the care already available while bringing additional levels of care back to Valentine.
Canyon Ridge is working toward the purchase of Cherry Hills from Caring Professionals, its current owner. Once the purchase is complete, Cherry Hills will become part of Canyon Ridge Care Center.
Cherry Hills will remain open and continue providing assisted living throughout the transition.
Cherry Hills already provides an important level of care in Valentine. Bringing Cherry Hills into Canyon Ridge will help safeguard its existing assisted living services while creating a foundation for additional levels of care.
The long-term vision is to build on what Cherry Hills already provides by adding long-term care and skilled nursing, allowing more people to remain in Valentine as their care needs change.
Canyon Ridge's vision is to create a continuum of care that includes:

Assisted living, continuing the services currently provided at Cherry Hills.

Long-term care for people who need ongoing residential support and care.

Skilled nursing care for people with more complex medical and nursing needs.
Current planning includes approximately 32 skilled nursing beds, with final plans subject to design, financing and regulatory approval.

Valentine and Cherry County currently do not have a skilled nursing facility. When someone's care needs exceed what can be provided through assisted living, they may have to leave the community to find appropriate care elsewhere.
Canyon Ridge is intended to help close that gap so more people can remain near their families, friends, healthcare providers and community.
Canyon Ridge is still in the planning and development process, and a final opening date has not yet been established.
Timing will depend on fundraising and financing, design and construction, and applicable regulatory approvals. Updates will be shared with the community as the project moves forward.
